Greek Smoking Ban ... completely and utterly ignored! **Updated**

l've just spent a week in Rhodes, Greece and can truthfully say that l've not seen the smoking ban there. l've been in many bars, clubs (prob too many) and restaurants and smoking was prevalent in all of them bar none. Also the hotel l stayed in had ashtrays in all the rooms bar none. People smoke everywhere and are certainly not a target for denormalisation as smokers and non-smokers mix freely and happily.. There is no tutting, pulling faces, coughing, waffing of hands etc etc .... which you would expect at least from the British anti-smoking righteous that are on holiday there. Do the righteous lose their bottle when they leave the UK or what? You don't hear a peep from them despite being surrounded by smokers virtually everywhere.Where do the righteous go to avoid us smokers? ... do they stay in their rooms or what? Oh the torment us smokers must cause them!

On the way back at Rhodes Airport we were waiting at our gate for the flight. Each gate has it's own enclosed area. l was sat down on the floor in front of friends reading my book and started to use my electronic ciggy. A few moments later my friends alerted me to the fact that the couple sat next to them had moved. lt seemed they had tutted and made faces when l was using my electronic ciggy. l laughed and realised the righteous were coming from beneath their rocks again now they were about to leave Rhodes ... not all the way out from underneath the rocks mind. They'll wait to get back to UK to do that!

UPDATE

Whilst on about the subject of the righteous, it would be amiss of me not to mention their other favourite campaign ... protecting the children from predatory paedophiles and sexual imagery etc.In the UK there is an endless stream of regulatory measures aimed at this. These all come with the banning mantra .... raunchy videos, taking photos of children whether in parks, school plays or whatever, banning certain clothing, censoring the internet, turning schools into prison camps ... the list is endless.

So what happens when we go on holiday to the sun kissed beaches of Greece, Spain, Bulgaria etc? The kids, pre-teens, 13yr olds etc are running about the pool, beaches in bathing costumes, part bathing costumes or in the case of the toddlers, no costumes whatsoever. They play with new friends they've found and do so very happily. They are surrounded by adults in swimming attire which in many cases when worn by adult females is so miniscule it leaves little to the imagination. Wrinkled Weasel has many visits to his site because of a certain brand of such attire ... their name? ....Wicked Weasel   Even attire such as this is reduced further as females remove the top and go topless.

Cameras are everywhere! Families taking them of their kids, couples taking them of each other, friends taking them of friends, etc etc. Yet we don't hear any of the rightteous condemning this or running off to inform the local police. Why? ... because people are enjoying themselves and not freaking out looking for a bogeyman (who seems only to live in the UK). Everyone is on holiday and making friends with people they never knew before and this includes people from other nationalities. Kids are perfectly safe as are everyone else. They don't need the righteous to protect themselves or their kids ... they do it for themselves.

On top of this is of course the abundance of alcohol and smoking enjoyed by holidaymakers. Taking into account all the above, one has to ask ...

Do the righteous actually go on holiday????? Maybe they stay in the UK with the predatory paedophile???

  1. Brits are an international embarrassment on this subject, you should hear Czechs, Belgians and the Dutch laughing at us. All I can do is nod and make excuses for the cretinous pansies.

  2. There is a certain B&B just off the river 2 minutes walk from Norwich railway station, where when we asked the Lithuanian proprietor whether we could have a smoking room, he replied "All the rooms are non-smoking but you will find an ashtray on the table".

No wonder the other countries in Europe rip the fucking piss out of us...

  3. If the couple had been in a U.K. airport they would have rushed around looking for an 'official' to come and tell you to put out your e-cig.
The Brits may be 'righteous' but hey are total cowards and need others to do their dirty work for them

  4. Yup. I live in Greece most of the time. Ban is mostly ignored on the mainland as well. "The ashtrays are on the tables", as we say.
And given the volatile politics at the mo, I don't think the Greek government will be rushing to enforce it...they have one or two other things on their mind.
Hope you enjoyed your holiday, N2D!

  9. Here I am! Kinda busy at the moment, and a bit exhausted.

I'm working on a long-term project against Customs, taking them to court. The game's still on, but they really don't wanna play. They're asking the judge again to strike it out.

Also got a court appearance in a couple of weeks, parking ticket number, er 27? (Lost count.) I can't lose this, but I'm trying to extract the maximum entertainment from it.

Greece? You gotta love their attitude! :-)

    1. well said mate. I am a non smoker but I detest the discrimination shown towards those who choose to do something that is perfectly legal, and if smoking is supposedly so bad, then how come the mediterraneans have healthier lifestyles and fewer cancers than the british, despite having a much higher percentage of smokers. and people whinge about smoking harming children, are probably the first to smack their child because he cries and then won't let them play outside and wonder why they grow up to be violent thugs

  17. Glad i switched to electronic cigarettes, now these bans don't irritate me and i can smoke with freedom, such kind of bans are frustrating for smokers but non smoking people love them.

    1. We use electronic but still smoke normal cigarettes. There's many establishments that allow smoking but it's 'underground' now.

"In the eyes of the Tribunal the review letter contained several preconceptions, prejudgments and non-sequiturs"

"the absurdity of this reason is demonstrated by simply stating it"

"We therefore find that Mr Sked misdirected himself as to the Policy in carrying out the review and his decision is therefore one that no reasonable review officer could have arrived at."

... commonly known here at N2D as 'Skeds' ... that is to say these are Judges comments regarding UKBA Review Officer Ian Sked's reasons for rejecting peoples appeals against seizures.
